JMC and Grading
JMC is important- make sure you have your password- the office can help you if you do not have it. You can access JMC through the Danville website. Though it won't show the full picture until the end of the quarter, students should monitor their grade and watch for missing work.
I try to update your grades every week. Sometimes this takes longer for assignments involving lots of writing or on big weeks. As students are allowed to correct assignments, I'm essentially grading things twice. Sometimes this shows with my grading time. Bear with me- I'm always caught up by the end of the quarter! Anything turned in by the deadline appropriately will be entered.
As YOUR grades should be important to YOU, please come see me if you have a problem. We can work together to solve it. JMC is not a tool to see if your assignment is done THAT day. It is a tool to get an overall snapshot of your skills, work ethic, organization, and follow through. I do have pieces of specific data concerning skills, as this is an ongoing analysis.
Below is a "code" for understanding JMC. You may see a combination of codes, depending on circumstances. Some of these, like "i" and "f," are specific to my class. Others, such as "Li," are specific to JMC and might be utilized differently by different teachers. I've added screenshots when possible. You have to click the image to see it.
Please note, JMC will count any unentered assignment as a missing assignment. That means if it is blank because I did not finish entering grades or because an extra credit assignment was not turned in, you will see a missing score listed on your homepage. Often you will see this note just because your student did not take an extra credit opportunity. It does not impact the grade, unless I enter something in the spot. Look for Mi or Li (codes provided by JMC for teachers to mark and calculate grade) in the grades to see if there is actually a missing assignment. JMC just looks for "blanks" and reports accordingly (literally a blank score).

Blank Spots
If your student is choosing not to take all the homework opportunities, you will see several blanks. They are not hurting the grade and that assignment is not actually reflected in their points possible. Since homework is optional, you won't see Mi for these assignments (that would lower their score). You will still see Mi for missing assessments (such as if they were absent during a test or did not turn in an essay).
You may also see a blank for an assignment your student completed, just because I am not finished entering the assignment. Again, this isn't hurting their grade.

Extra Credit
In addition, JMC will note that all extra credit is a 0%. The points will still impact the grade. Look at the points received, not the percentage.
Completed extra credit will have a score (not a blank), but will still show as 0%
Extra credit that is not done will show as a blank

LX- I rarely use this, but it means there was a teacher chosen exemption. It means for some reason (possibly an extended illness), I decided it was best to exempt the student from the score.
LWC- Late Work Coupon- it was late, but they were able to receive full credit by using their LWC (they get one coupon per quarter).

2LFCok
You will see this if your student handed in their assignment too late for credit, but did not skip their work detention, if assigned. They are considered exempt and the assignment does not hurt their grade. Still eligible to use their LWC. If they skip this assigned time, but later completed it, you will see 2LFCS

C- Corrected- this means they took the time to make corrections to improve their grade; they may do this for all assignments, quizzes, reading drills, etc. This is displayed with the "Intro Poetry Test."
MC- Mandatory Corrections- I pulled your student in and they were compelled to correct their assignment to 70%. This is typically done for major assessments and assignments. This is not a common technique I use.
I- Incomplete- students may finish the assignment and receive half credit. It counts as a zero until it is fixed.
Mi- I never received the assignment. No credit. Late work policy applies. Unless it falls within the 2 day rule for makeup work or within the late work window, the only way to receive credit is with a late work coupon.
The following codes will be present with an Mi. They show up in the line under the MI and are preceded by an asterisk. You will often see these codes with a score. That means they have fixed the issue, but I do not remove the code.
A- Absent when turned in- it is due the day they come back or it is late. This might show up with an Mi (not completed or graded at the time grades were entered) or with a score (indicating they have finished their makeup work).
AA- Absent when assigned- they have 2 days to complete the assignment, or it is late. This is displayed with "Lochinvar Notes."
Li- There is an issue with your assignment and I am unable to grade it for various reasons. No credit for the assignment until it is fixed. However, it can be turned in for credit. If it is not fixed, it will remain a 0.
F- Fix/format- there was an issue with how the assignment was done, they may fix it for full credit. It counts as a zero until it is fixed. This will also show up after they have corrected it (there will be a score present if they corrected it).

JMC tips from other families
- You can set JMC to notify you of missing assignments (I think this only means if there is a code for missing assignment, not a blank). This is under the settings page. Please note, you will receive repeated emails for that assignment, until the end of the quarter. However, as patterns of not completing work is the biggest cause of failing grades, this is really useful.
- Another way to set JMC is by percentage. You can receive an email if your student's grade goes under a certain percentage. The only time I can foresee this being unhelpful is at the start of a quarter (i.e. 2 point checkin, a student misses 1 point, their grade is technically at a 50%). As long as you keep it in perspective, this is also a great tool.
